Growing up my dad taught me how to read maps (we didn’t have GPS or smart phones). When we’d go on vacation he’d say “You’re reading the map.” We might end up somewhere totally wrong, but he didn’t care, because it was all an adventure to him. He never saw getting lost as a bad thing. So it became an adventure to me also. Completely by chance you could end up somewhere that you didn’t intend, but you would always find something new and interesting.
This is how I approach design also. I embrace the twists and turns that design takes, the back-tracks, the inevitable changes in direction, and am always excited about reaching the final destination.
